Many of us who survive sexual abuse put it behind us and decide that it really was not all that bad, after all we lived through it and now it's behind us. However, the fruit that is in our lives tells a different story. You see every relationship from the time we were abused is colored by what happened to us, or better yet, what we believed about ourselves in relation to what we lived through. Secular counseling can be helpful, but it does not offer the opportunity for women to really receive freedom from the bondages that accompany abuse. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can accomplish that.In these classes we walk through different steps of recovery and healing. We offer a safe place for women to deal with the issues of abuse in their lives. Most of us believe that we had no-one to protect us; therefore, we need to protect ourselves from any more harm. As a result of that, we become very independent and self reliant. The consequence of that is marriages break up and families fall apart, because we don't know how to give what we don't have, and that is love and trust. Some of us have a difficult time being truly intimate with our mates and end up transferring our resentment to our husbands. You see, hurt people hurt people, and we become very good at doing to others what was done to us. Maybe not in the same way, but the hurt we can bring to others and to ourselves is just as painful.
