Notes from John Ruggiero

Much of Christian prayer ministry deals with the lies that dwell deeply within our heart, the kind of lies that keep us in bondage. These kinds of lies are the ones we learn by experience and are not easily overcome by logical truth.

Every heart lie has a source and origin in an event that was traumatic in some way. It is not the event itself that implants the lie, but how we interpret that event. The problem is that the lie does not stay in that past event, but gets triggered every time we encounter anything in our present life that is similar to that event.

Our mind works by association, anything in the present that is similar to the past, brings up that past event. Not only does it bring up the past event, with all its implanted lies, but it also brings all the negative emotions coming from those lies. If you were attacked by a dog when you were 5 years old, one of the lies that you could believe was that you were going to die, and you would be afraid based upon that lie. So when you are 30 and you come across a dog unexpectedly, you will feel that same fear, because it is triggering that past event with that lie and resulting emotion, because in spontaneous or crisis situations you will default to what you learned in your past experiences, not to your logical truth. So all that emotion that was in that past event that has been triggered, will flood into your present situation, and since we tend to act out of our emotion, you will tend to make wrong choices in the present.

Logic, from ourselves or other people, will not deliver us because logic is not as powerful as the experiential lies implanted in a past life event. It takes logic to overcome logic, but it takes an experience to overcome an experience. The only one who can deliver us is Jesus. Christian prayer ministry is all about going back to those past events, via memory, identifying those lies and asking Jesus to reveal truth to those lies. It is having an experience with Jesus to overcome the lies that were learned via experience. It is redeeming the past to change the present. So in the same situations where before you had all these ungodly emotions and resulting wrong choices, you now have the perfect peace of Christ and have freedom to live Godly.
